Meta is beginning to wind down feature support for Quest 2 and Quest Pro from January 2027. Horizon OS 2.13, scheduled to start rolling out that month and reach all devices by March, will be the final operating system release for both headsets. Meta VR OS SDK v213 will also be the last supported SDK version for them.
After those releases, new OS features, platform capabilities and APIs will be available only on Quest 3, Quest 3S and newer devices. Meta says it will no longer test subsequent OS and SDK releases on Quest 2 or Quest Pro, but will continue quarterly security patches and critical bug fixes through December 2027.
Existing apps and games will remain available to use. Owners can continue to find, buy and download apps, and play multiplayer with Quest 3 and Quest 3S users when cross-play is supported. Developers may keep updating their apps, though Meta will accept new submissions for Quest 2 and Quest Pro only through December 2027.
Developers who plan to end support must give users at least 180 days’ notice if the change would remove access to content or essential services. They can also use device targeting to preserve a final build for the headsets or stop offering an app for sale on them.
The transition follows Meta’s earlier decision to wind down sales of Quest 2 and Quest Pro, announced at Meta Connect in September 2024 alongside Quest 3S. Quest 2 launched in October 2020, while Quest Pro arrived in October 2022.
